Hampton Roads Gold — Where Things Stand and What Comes Next

There’s a point in every book where it stops being an idea and starts becoming something real.

That’s where Hampton Roads Gold is now.

For months, I’ve been deep in the world of Rhett Carver—his choices, his risks, and the consequences that keep closing in around him. This story has taken shape chapter by chapter, not just as a crime novel, but as something more layered… something that lives in that space between control and collapse.

And now, I’m close.

The Setting That Drives Everything

If you’ve never spent time thinking about Hampton Roads, it’s not just a place—it’s a force. It’s one of the largest natural harbors in the world, where multiple rivers feed into the Chesapeake Bay and out to the Atlantic.

That geography matters. It’s why the region has always been tied to ships, trade, military power—and in the shadows, things moving that aren’t supposed to be moving.

That tension—between what’s visible and what isn’t—is exactly what this story is built on.

Where the Book Is Right Now

The manuscript is essentially complete.

What I’m doing now is not rewriting—it’s tightening.

  • Checking continuity (making sure every action has a consequence)
  • Eliminating anything that slows the pace
  • Making sure the final chapters land with the weight they should

At this stage, it’s less about adding and more about removing what doesn’t belong.

The structure is locked.
The characters are fully formed.
Now it’s about precision.

What Happens Next

Here’s the plan, as it stands right now:

1. Final Read-Through (Cooling Period First)
I’ll step back briefly, then read the entire book straight through—not as a writer, but as a reader. That’s where emotional flow matters more than line edits.

2. ARC Strategy (Advance Readers)
This is the piece I’m taking seriously this time.

The goal:

  • Have 15–20 real reviews ready at launch
  • Build early momentum instead of starting from zero

3. Copyright Registration
Before anything else goes out, the manuscript will be formally registered.

4. Contest Submissions
Planned submissions include:

  • Book Pipeline
  • BookLife Prize

These aren’t just for validation—they’re potential doors into a much bigger audience.

5. Publication Target
I’ve been saying June, and that’s still the goal—but I’m not going to rush the final step.
This book needs to land right.

What This Book Really Is

Yes, it’s a crime story.

Yes, there’s smuggling, risk, and escalation.

But underneath all of that, Hampton Roads Gold is about something else:

  • The moment when you cross a line and can’t go back
  • The illusion that you’re still in control
  • And how fast everything can unravel once that illusion breaks

It’s not about action for the sake of action.
It’s about consequences.

Final Thought

Every book has its own personality.

The Unlikely Angel of Casco Bay had a certain emotional pull.

Unity House leaned into connection and second chances.

This one?

This one has teeth.

And I’m very close to letting it loose.
